Larry Alvaro Tucker, 81 of
Bolingbrook, Illinois, passed away at 2:35 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Burgess Square Healthcare and Rehab Centre in Westmont, IL, after a long illness.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 16 from 3-7 p.m. at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home in
Bolingbrook, IL. Prayer service will be offered by St. Dominic Catholic Church. Order of the Arrow, Broken Arrow Ceremony by Waupecan Lodge of BSA Rainbow Council will be presented. Burial will be private at a later date at Good Hope Cemetery in Good Hope, IL.
Larry was born April 30, 1942 in
Macomb, Illinois to James P. and Gladys (Lovejoy) Tucker. He grew up in Macomb, IL, then Lamar, CO, and Sioux City, IA. Larry graduated with the Class of 1960 at East High School in Sioux City. He continued his education at Western Iowa Tech Community College, where he majored in the growing field of computer programming.
He married Marilyn Ann Hughes on August 22, 1970 at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in
Akron, Iowa. They moved to Addison, Illinois in 1971 and
Bolingbrook, Illinois in 1980, where they have lived for 43 years. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Bolingbrook.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elnora Gostas and Fern Bechtold, brother James T. Tucker, and daughter Kasandra Poeckes, as well as many other beloved family members.
Larry is survived by his bride of 53 years, Marilyn Tucker of
Bolingbrook, Illinois; children Stefanie and her husband James (Jim) Clesceri of
Bolingbrook, Illinois, James (J.D./Jim) and his wife, Trischa Tucker of
Pueblo West, Colorado; Grandchildren James (J.C.), Jessica, and Trina Tucker of
Pueblo West, Colorado, and Jesika, Biondina (Dina), and Bianka Stephens of
Bolingbrook, Illinois; many brothers/sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family who lovingly called him Dad, Pops, Uncle Larry, and Papa Smurf.
Larry worked 20 years for Anson Industries in Melrose Park, IL as a computer programmer, and 8 years for Lord & Murphy, as a computer payroll programmer. He enjoyed many hobbies, his favorites included camping and outdoor activities. Larry and Mary camped as often as they could (with their van and camper in tow) and were known to spend multiple weeks each Fall in Colorado camping in the mountains with their family. He had an interest in Native American Culture and American History, in particular: World War II. His favorite cocktail was Southern Comfort and 7up. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Panthers Softball League coach, and he volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 20 years, serving in roles through Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the Explorer Scout Program. Larry was a proud father and grandfather, and loved being a huge part of his children's and grandchildren's lives.
Larry's family would like to especially thank the staff at Burgess Square Healthcare & Rehab Centre in Westmont, IL for the excellent care they provided over the last nine months.
