Larry H. Van Gerpen, age 89, U.S. Navy veteran, a resident of Plainfield, IL, formerly of Sacramento, CA, Flemington, NJ and Sun City, AZ, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at his home. He was born on October 8, 1935, in Fremont, NE.
Beloved husband of 63 years to JoAnn Van Gerpen (nee Van Dover), whom he married on September 9, 1961, loving father of Shelley (Amy) Van Gerpen of Pittstown, NJ and Ronald (Michelle) Van Gerpen of Aurora, IL, adored grandfather of Nathan and Andrew Van Gerpen, devoted son of the late Herman and Inez (nee Callahan) Van Gerpen, dear brother of Dr. James (Patricia) Van Gerpen of Groveland, CA, fond uncle of David (Lynette) Van Gerpen, Matthew (Tami) Van Gerpen and John (Tanya) Van Gerpen, great-uncle and friend of many.
Larry grew up in Fremont, NE, was a graduate of Fremont High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Pacific Bell and was later transferred to Bell Labs in Piscataway, NJ where he worked for many years before retiring in 1997. Larry moved to Carillon Plainfield and enjoyed playing golf, camping, traveling, and spending time with his grandsons.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024, 1:00-3:00 PM at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 Joliet Rd. (Corner of Rt. 30 and Rt. 59), Plainfield, IL 60544.
A celebration of Larry's life will follow Sunday, 3:00 PM in the funeral home.
Private interment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
