Laura Mae Craine

Laura Mae Craine, affectionately known as Laurie died peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025 in Long Beach, NY at the age of 88.
Laurie was born on June 26, 1936 in South St. Paul, MN, an only child to Roy and Mae Hanson. She met the love of her life, Joseph Anthony Craine Sr. in college and they married in 1957. Laura followed Joseph to New York where she became a part of her husband's large family and discovered her love of the beach. She had many interests including reading, gardening, crocheting, crafts and baking to name a few. She worked for many years at Long Beach Hospital Nursing Home where she enjoyed sharing recipes with her coworkers. She was passionate about her community and was a dedicated member of The Long Beach Historical Society. There, she hosted tea party fund raisers and ran the gift shop. Laurie appreciated learning about and sharing our Long Beach barrier island history. Her greatest joy was the raising of her 7 children in her little cottage by the sea and the arrival of her grand and great-grandchildren.
Laurie was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Anthony Craine Sr., granddaughter Thérèse Herbert, son-in-laws Michael Noonan and Terry Byer.
Laurie is survived by her seven children and their families: Stephanie and Kevin McAvoy, Kevin and Sophia McAvoy, Robert McAvoy, Andrea Byer, Terry Byer Jr and Renee Cobb, Joseph and Donna Craine, Anthony Craine, Deidre and Alfred Rodriguez, Lauren Rodriguez and Alan Cooley, Rosie and J'Neil Sharpe, Liam Sharpe, Mary Noonan, Liam Noonan, Finbar Noonan, Laura Lusk, Joseph Lusk and McKinsey Haley, Kayla Lusk and Alex Damian, Leah and George Herbert, Emma Herbert, George and Emilia Herbert, Dakota Herbert, and Sadie Herbert. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many friends who cherished and cared for our mother including her aides Anaelle, Carrington, Solita, and Patricia with Always Compassionate Home Care, and those that cared for her at Beach Terrace.
A funeral mass is being held Friday, June 13, 11am at St. Ignatius Martyr Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Laura's life.
