Laura has lived much of her adult life in the Bay area of California, which she considered to be "The center of the universe". Laura was very proud of graduating from the University of California Berkeley for her undergrad and then earned her Master's in Pastoral Counseling from Holy Names University.
Laura got "priced out" from her apartment near San Francisco and moved up to Portland, Oregon. Once there, Laura worked in Community Mental Health as a caseworker and met her future husband at an agency called Homestreet Banyan Tree, Inc and was part of a dynamic Intensive Outpatient mental health treatment team.
Laura married Brian Frederick Shearer (DOB 5/15/75) on April 15, 2009. Laura and Brian got married at a private waterfall in Hilo, HI as Laura's family had roots in Hawaii. The sun shone through as Laura and Brian were exchanging their vows and they spent their honeymoon ziplining through a rainforest and swimming with wild dolphins.
Laura and Brian shared a common sense of adventure, a twisted sense of humor, and a mutual love and faith for the Lord God.
Laura and Brian spent a great deal of time in nature and on their 6 ½ acre river front property in Concrete, WA. Laura is survived by her husband and four wonderful canine children: Sophie (Karelian Bear Dog), Sabre (Belgian Malinois), Rexy (Siberian Husky), and Rainy (Siberian Husky).
Laura was diagnosed with ALS in January 2024 and became completely quadriplegic at a rapid pace. The disease never broke her faith or spirit as the Lord told her many times "Keep your eyes on me". Laura did just that and was an inspiration to many for her great courage in suffering. Laura had a tremendous outpouring of love from friends and family.
Laura will always be remembered for her gentleness, love, sense of adventure, and fiery spirit. Laura is presently in a Heavenly reunion with many of her friends, former pets, and family members who preceded her.
