Laura Platt Woods, age 83, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at her home.
Laura was born in Holly Hill, SC to the late Allen Platt and Laura Dangerfield Platt. She lived in Holly Hill on the farm until age thirteen, when the family moved to Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Kenneth Woods; two brothers, Charles Platt and Rutledge Platt and four sisters, Bernice Hooks, Ester Bass, Violet Fleshman and Linda Durrance.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Karen Woods Brown of Union Mills; sister, Julia McVay; brothers, Denzle Platt (Shirley Jean) and Raymond Platt (Shirley Faye) all of Apopka, Florida; three grandsons, Luke Westerman, Derrick Woods-Brown and Jacob Brown; two great-grandsons, Hunter Street and Jackson Woods-Brown.
Laura came from a large Christian family that has a real love for the Lord. She attended and graduated from Mt. Dora Christian Home and Bible School. Laura was proud of her Native American heritage. She was a part of the Santee Tribe and the Wassamasaw Tribe. She worked for several newspapers in Florida and retired as Marketing Manager with Albertsons. She was a Sunday School teacher from a young age and loved sharing her knowledge of God. She was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 8th at Mountain Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Brian Blanchette and Reverend Paul Howell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
