Lauragene Osteen Mitchell, 93, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away March 7, 2025. She was born on July 7, 1931, in the small community of Morriston, FL, to the late Kirbie Lee and Marie Isabelle (Schuster) Osteen. Lauragene grew up on a farm with her eight siblings.
Lauragene moved to Jacksonville after her mother passed. She also lived in New Jersey, and Panama City, Florida, during her life.
Lauragene was married and divorced twice. She worked in clerical and food service during the first part of her life. In 1971 she started a career with the IRS and received numerous awards during her 24 years with the IRS. Her greatest achievement was her receipt of the Albert Gallatin Award that she received at her retirement in March, 1996. Lauragene graduated from Florida Junior College in 1981 with her Associates degree. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who cherished the time spent with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Kirbie and Marie Osteen. Brothers: David Osteen and Kirby Lee Osteen, Jr.; and sisters: Flora Markham, Florence Moleta, Leona Thompson. Clara Tomasky, Letha Reeves and Thelma Tomasky. Lauragene is survived by her daughters: Linda Wroble (Bo), Debra Hunt (Rick), Donna Duncan (Steve) and Nancy Appel (Jon); son, Ronald Mitchell (LaJohnna); grandchildren, Lorelei Becker, Donna Pennington, Julie Starkel, David Wroble, Christi Hurley, Desiree Moody, Jaclyn Morang, Allison Mitchell, Alex Mitchell, Austin Childers, and Jennifer Brantly; numerous great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in the Jacksonville Memorial Gardens Chapel with Dr. Elvin Adams officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until service time.
