Graveside funeral services for Mrs. LaVerne Smith Johnson, 88, of Keatchie, Louisiana will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Shiloh Methodist Cemetery with Bro. Charles Hall officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. LaVerne Smith Johnson was born on March 9, 1936, in Simsboro, Louisiana. On April 9, 2024, she was surrounded by loving family when she went to be with her Lord and Savior where she received complete healing. LaVerne was the baby of five children born to the marriage of William Dewey and Lula Eurika Nunn Smith. She was raised in Saline, Louisiana graduating from Saline High School. She married her love, Henry H. Johnson November 15, 1957, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage and four children. Mrs. Johnson began her career as a switchboard operator for AT&T. After promotion to many office positions, she retired after 40 years of service.
LaVerne was a longtime member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. She loved cooking for her family, flower and vegetable gardening, and was known for her famous Strawberry Jam. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ike, Joseph, and Johnny Smith and a sister, Carrie Smith.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her loving husband, Henry H. Johnson of Keatchie, LA; children, Mitch Johnson and wife Pam of Grand Cane, LA, Becky McFadden and husband Joey of Shiloh, LA, Kevin Johnson of Shiloh, LA, and Brandon Johnson and wife Stefanie of Keithville, LA; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Josh Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Tyler McFadden, Joey Johnson, and Karsten Davis. The family wishes to thank, Rebecca Bates, Adrienne Cameron, and Tina Office for being such loving caregivers.
