Lawana Murney Obituary

Lawana Dee Peterson Murney, age 82 of Nowthen, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 20, 2025. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Lowell Murney, Mother Leah Harbaugh-Peterson, Father Robert Smith, the man she called Dad, George Peterson, sisters Dolly and Janet, brother Sonny, and son Lenny. She will be deeply missed by her children, Larry (Kelly), Loren (Shelly), and Linda (Kris); grandchildren, Ryan, Brianna, Jenna, Marissa, Austin, Cole, and Kyle; Great-Grandchildren, Eli, Celina, Logan, Madeline, and Alexander.
Lawana made a career out of caring for her family, giving them endless faith-filled love throughout her life. She had a creative spirit and a giving heart. Early on, she discovered a love for ceramics, proudly displaying her work throughout her home and sharing her creations with loved ones.
Her passion for horses led her to many joyful days spent in Hinkley on trail rides, attending horse shows, and being an active member of three saddle clubs. With her mother-in-law, she learned the art of weaving on a loom, crafting beautiful placemats and runners. She was also a talented seamstress who made clothing for her family and added her own embroidered touches to everything she created.
Lawana's quiet joy was found in the pages of her beloved Zane Grey novels.Later in life, she and her husband enjoyed countless adventures together - riding their Harley-Davidson to Sturgis a few times, and later trading in two wheels for four with their bright yellow Mustang. They shared wonderful memories with their close-knit group of Mustang friends, and even tried their hand at kayaking.
Lawana will be remembered not only for the full and joyful life she lived, but for the love, laughter, and legacy she leaves behind. She was a deeply respected woman, a devoted wife, and a loving mother - now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, family, and God.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 11 AM with visitation starting at 10 AM at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel, 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd NW.
