Born May 2, 1945 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Sarah Varner Hockenberry.
LaWanda graduated from Fannett-Metal High School in 1964. She worked as a seamstress for most of her life and other jobs before retiring to help take care of her parents. LaWanda married Robert Leab on April 19, 1965. She loved gardening, canning, and shopping. LaWanda enjoyed trips to the family cabin and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything.
LaWanda is survived by two daughters, Dana A. (Rodney W.) Frazier of Mercersburg, Cherry L. Laye of Fort Loudon, 4 grandchildren, Kelly R. (Brad) Eichelberger, Ryan (Jennie) Laye, Travis (Tara) Frazier, Amanda (Jayce) Keefer, 3 great-grandsons, 6 great-granddaughters, and a sister, Faye Moser.
LaWanda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leab (2021) and a sister, Delores Hammond.
A viewing will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 7, at Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg, PA. A funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday May 8, at Fries Funeral Home with Reverend Roy Fahnestock officiating and burial will take place at Stenger Hill Cemetery. There will be a visitation 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
