Lawrence Eugene “Papa” Allison, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Moses Cone Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Guilford County on February 28, 1952 to the late Marion Holt and Mary Susan Gerner Allison and was the husband of 54 years to Vanessa Gale Mabry “Gee” Allison of the home.
Lawrence, affectionately known as “Papa”, was a beloved and longtime member of Brick Church. A country boy at heart, Lawrence grew up working on his uncle’s farm, where he developed a strong work ethic that stayed with him throughout his life. He took great pride in his work as a painter, a trade he learned from his father. Beyond his career, Lawrence enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including gardening, coin collecting and playing cards at Taylors Store with his friends. He was also known to take great delight in the cooking of his beloved wife, Gee.
Above all, Lawrence was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He found immense joy in spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren play ball. His love and dedication to his family were evident in all he did. Lawrence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, hard work, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Vanessa; daughters, Wendy Allison, Cassa Fogleman; grandchildren, Madison DeBartolomeis (Victor), Landon Emery (Lauren), Reagan Allison (Dylan), Ryan Allison, Lauren Fogleman, Brendon Fogleman; great grandson, Caiden Matadin; brothers, Marion Allison, Leroy Allison (Brenda), Julius Allison (Michelle), Rodney Allison (Janice); sisters, Betty Tucker, Peggy Everette, Bernell Holyfield and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Tony Fogleman and his mother-in-law, Blondie Keck.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Brick Reformed Church by Pastor Geoff LaLone and Pastor JD Weed with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 prior to the service at the church and other times at his residence.
