Lawrence "Larry" Eugene Gennette passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, in
Howell, MI, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 5, 1946, in Detroit, MI, Larry was the cherished son of the late Tony and Irene Gennette.
Graduating from Farmington High School in the class of 1964, Larry was well known for his wit and charm. His foundational years were filled with laughter, friendship, and the beginning of what would become a lifelong passion for mechanics and the open road.
On May 5, 1979, Larry married his soulmate, Charmayne, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that would span over four decades. Together, they nurtured a family, hand in hand, through every season of life. With two children from his previous marriage: Christopher (Becky) Gennette and Heather (David) Donet, Larry and Charmayne welcomed their third child: Ryan (Carrie) Gennette. Larry was an exemplary and loving father, providing not just for their physical needs but also their emotional and intellectual growth.
Larry was a pillar in his family, both immediate and extended, which included his devoted siblings Ross (Cindy) Gennette, Vickey Reynolds, and Daniel (Tina) Gennette. He was the fun-loving and wise uncle to many nieces and nephews who fondly looked up to him. His joy only multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren Meghan, Christopher, Vivian, Mara, and Nathan, and later, his great-grandchildren Ezra and Mason.
Born into an Italian family, Larry had an innate love for his heritage, which was evident in every aspect of his life. His passions were many, from cruising on his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycles to driving his classic cars down Woodward Avenue during the Dream Cruise, his favorites being his 1928 Ford Roadster, 1969 Plymouth Road Runner, and 1976 Chevrolet Corvette.
A true sportsman, Larry cherished the outdoors. Whether he was fishing or embarking on family hunting trips across Lewiston, Mio, Beaverton, and the Upper Peninsula, he found solace and exhilaration in nature's embrace. Moreover, he was an animated presence at family events, known for lighting up any room with his engaging stories and hearty laughter.
An avid bocce ball player, Larry enjoyed the camaraderie and competition that came with the game. His love for community extended to his membership with the Howell Eagle's Club and the VFW, where he often spent time unwinding with his buddies over a cool beer, sharing stories, and creating lasting memories.
Larry's influence extended far beyond his hobbies; his commitment to his family was unparalleled. He was the robust foundation upon which family traditions were built and carried on. He reveled in the togetherness of family parties and weddings, where he celebrated not only the milestones but the everyday moments that connected one generation to the next.
As we bid farewell to Larry, we remember a life truly well-lived, filled with moments that echo with laughter, love, and the revving engines of a life that never slowed down. We take comfort in knowing that his journey continues on roads paved with the memories we hold dear, as his spirit soars freely on the wings of time.
