Lawrence "Larry" Kopchinski, age 72, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025. Born May 5, 1952, in Stevens Point WI, he was the beloved son of Max and Lorraine (Fossman) Kopchinski.
Larry graduated from Pacelli High School in 1970 and pursued his passion for mechanics, attending Mid-State Technical College (1971), CTI Auto Mechanics (1973), and later NCTI for drafting (1978). His dedication to his craft led to a rewarding career at Wausau Motor Parts (Federal Mogal) where he worked diligently from 1971 until his retirement in 2012.
Larry was a devoted husband, first to Darlene Eckendorf (married 1971, divorced 1982), and then to his beloved Cathy Schwartz, whom he married in 1992 and shared many happy years with until his passing. He was a loving father to Tyronne, Terry, and Van Schwartz, and a cherished Bubba to Lateciah Wanserski, Grandfather to Andrew Avery, and Papa to Vanicia Blackhawk Schwartz, and Van Schwartz Jr. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Eva (Young) Fossman, and Max Kopchinski Sr. and Rose Platta Kopchinski.
Larry's life was filled with simple pleasures. He found joy in the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family and grandchildren. Since 1985 he attended many concerts with his wife, a longtime fan of Willie Nelson. His creative spirit found expression in woodworking and skiing.
In keeping with Larry's wishes, there will be no services or visitation. He will be deeply missed by his wife Cathy, his sons, his grandchildren, and all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
