Lawrence LaPrairie Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center on Jan. 28, 2026.
Lawrence "Larry" La Prairie, 81, of Wittmann, Arizona, formerly of Canton, MI, passed away at home on January 24, 2026, surrounded by his family and five beloved dogs. Larry was born on November 25, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan to George and Olive La Prairie.

After graduating from Divine Child High School, Larry proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1965 and was honorably medically discharged in April 1966. He especially cherished his time aboard the USS Towhee (ASG-28) and remained proud of his military service throughout his life.

In September 1967, Larry married his sweetheart, Susan La Prairie (née Cogar), beginning a loving partnership that spanned nearly six decades. Together they raised three devoted, strong, independent, and spirited children: Cheryl, David, and Caryn.

He later retired from Delta Air Lines as an Air Cargo Supervisor, where he built lasting friendships and was known for his unmatched work ethic and dedication. From his Navy service to his career at Delta, Larry brought the same energy, integrity, and love to every part of his life - especially to his family.

Family was the center of Larry's world. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; children Cheryl (Doug) Isaacson of Bradenton, FL, David (Dawn) LaPrairie of Ypsilanti, MI, and Caryn (Thomas) McKenna of Wittmann, AZ; grandchildren Emily Isaacson (Christopher Brower), Jessica Isaacson, Courtney (Tom) Koersh, Brett Howard, and Angela (Mark) Kronk; great-grandchildren Kolton, Kelby, Mila, and Mason; nieces Rene Haney, Kathy (Mike) Pentecost, Lori (Bill) Cole; and Ronda Rogers, great nephews Daric Haney, Michael (Sarah) Mitchell, Bradley Mitchell; and great niece Kati Hollenbeck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Olive LaPrairie; sisters Carol LaPrairie and Shirley Haney; nephew Michael Mitchell; and great-nephews Billy Cole and Larry Mitchell.

Larry always had a quick wit and a joke ready for every occasion. Even as dementia took much from him, it never dulled his humor. He kept everyone laughing and, on their toes, right up to the very end. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, Taco Bell runs, the Beach Boys, watching On Patrol, bingo, rooting for the University of Michigan Wolverines, and spending time with his best buddy, his dog Teddy.

Larry will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his strong work ethic, his pride in serving his country, and the laughter he brought into every room. Larry's legacy of humor, love, and tireless dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, and his family is grateful he rests in peace.

"Eternal rest grant unto them, O lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen"

A celebration of life service in Michigan will be announced for a future time. Donations in Larry's memory may be made to the family or to Hospice of the Valley.

True to his playful spirit, Larry leaves us with one last joke:

"Wanna hear a dirty joke? A little boy fell in the mud. Wanna hear a clean joke? A little boy fell in the bathtub."
