Lawrence J. "Larry" Marthey, age 87, of Orrville, died Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Aultman Orrville Hospital in Orrville, following a sudden illness.
Larry was born on May 19, 1936, in Wooster, to the late Merle and Erma (Robb) Marthey, graduated from Apple Creek High School in 1954, and married Norma J. Campbell on May 19, 1956, in Wooster. Norma survives him.
He worked as a welder and ultimately as Production Planner for Westinghouse in Orrville for 30 years, retiring in 1996.
Larry was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Orrville and The Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, working in the lawn, watching the Cleveland Indians, and volunteering at Orrville Public Library.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Norma, are five sons, Ed Marthey of Wooster, R. Joseph Marthey of Orrville, Jon (Sharon) Marthey of North Lawrence, Ron (Theresa) Marthey of Arthurdale, WV, and Don Marthey of Batavia; five grandchildren, Joanna Marthey, Patricia Wilt, Nicholas Marthey, Benjamin Marthey, and Autumn Marthey; a great granddaughter, Leighton Marthey; a sister, Roberta Moretti of Cuyahoga Falls; and a brother, Harold "Butch" Marthey of Apple Creek.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Miranda Marthey; and his step-mother, Helen Marthey.
Friends may call on Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 541 Spring Street, Orrville, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 541 Spring Street, Orrville, with Pastor Ronald J. Turek officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at a meal in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place at 3:00 PM at the St. Genevieve Catholic Cemetery in Calmoutier near Maysville.
