Lawrence Conrad Miller, a cherished and respected educator, life coach and analyst, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, in Novi, Michigan, at the age of 82. Born in Nashville, Kansas, on April 11, 1942, to a family that valued hard work and education, Lawrence's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to the betterment of others through teaching, be that in a classroom, boardroom or living room.
Lawrence's journey through life was one of continuous learning and imparting knowledge. After obtaining both his bachelor's and master's degrees, he embarked on a rewarding career as a teacher, before moving into root cause analysis and life coaching. In these roles he encouraged others to find and define their own truth and motivations, leaving an indelible mark on the countless lives he touched.
Lawrence will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of many years, Ellen Miller (nee Samples), and children, Karen (Joseph) Gall, Michael Miller, Carol Muscat, Steve (Jennifer) La Riviere, Stephanie La Riviere, Damon (Melissa) La Riviere, and Amelia (Dylan Adair) Burgos. He was a guiding light in their lives and instilled in them the values of love, integrity, curiosity and perseverance.
As a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, Lawrence took immense joy in the lives of his grandchildren, Anna Gall, Erin Gall, Ben Miller, Sam Miller, Noah Muscat, Max Muscat, Amanda Sherlock, David La Riviere, Robert La Riviere, Derek (Averi) La Riviere, Abbey (Zeke) McCarthy, Martine La Riviere, Dante La Riviere, Madeline La Riviere, Sarah Crowe, Abby Crowe, J Crowe, Hannah Barnett, Isabel Adair, and Zoe Adair. His legacy continued to thrive in the laughter and development of his great-grandchildren, Asher, Kinza, Willow, and Sonny III.
Lawrence's life was formed and enriched by his bond with his siblings, Charlene (Julius) Powell, Beverly Rancuret, Betty (Dave) Ewing, Phyllis (Gail) Hilger, Donna (Jerry) Lies, and Mary (Michael) Shay. He is preceded in death by his parents Marius and Bertha Miller. Together, they shared a lifetime of moments that shaped their family's history with stories that will be told for generations to come.
Above all, Lawrence was a man who found the greatest happiness in conversations with his family, never missing an opportunity to talk about Detroit sports, the political climate or life in general, teaching every step of the way.
His students remember him as a mentor who believed in their potential, his colleagues as a friend who was always ready and able to lend valuable perspective, and his family as a dear and loving cornerstone.
Lawrence Conrad Miller's departure leaves behind a legacy of love, education, and exploration. His story is not one of an ending but a continuation through the countless lives he touched. Though he will be profoundly missed, his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the fortune to know him.
The family will be receiving guests at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 12 Mile Road, Berkley (two blocks west off Woodward Avenue) on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. A memorial service will take place at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Volunteers of America will be greatly appreciated by the family in honor of the special people Lawrence worked with there and his respect for their mission.

Mr Miller was my Philosophy teacher in 88-89 at Bishop Borgess. He really challenged us and our thinking. We enjoyed Classes 1-3 so much, he was willing to create Philosophy 4 just for us. Rest On!!

I remember Mr.Muller for Philosophy class in 1989..He was one of my favorite teachers and actually got me to take multiple Philosophy classes in college... his demeanor was serious, but you always knew he cared about every individual who was a part of his class.

I had the pleasure of being a student of Mr Miller in 1971.
While some of the concepts of philosophy eluded me, I'll never forget his devotion dedication and commitment to his craft and his students.
Rest easy sir, you ran the race well.
