GREENFIELD – Lawrence Ray "Larry/Sam" Muterspaugh, age 76, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at Community North Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born in Indianapolis on July 13, 1949, to William and Helen (Ferris) Muterspaugh. Larry attended Arlington High School and IUPUI. He served in the United States Airforce Reserves for six years. Larry met the love of his life, Debbie, in 8th grade. He married Deborah Jane (Sackett) Muterspaugh on June 13, 1970, in Indianapolis, and they were married for 55 years together. Larry started working for Peerless Air when he was 14 years old. He joined Butler Mutz as a salesman, and customers gave him the nickname "Singing Sam"! Later, he purchased the company and changed its name to Butler M-K. Larry retired from the HVAC business in 2020, leaving a legacy behind to his two sons! He was a member of the HVAC Association for several years and a member of the Scottish Rite, Shrine Club Gatling Gun Club, and Cumberland Masonic Lodge. Always a proud member of the Optimist Club while Coaching his boys in multiple sports. He was an avid bowler and softball player with many trophies to his collection. Before IUPUI had a sanctioned basketball team, he was a member of their All-Star basketball team. He loved catfish fishing as well. He attended church regularly at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church and Lawrence United Methodist Church. Most recently, he was attending Real Life Church in Greenfield. Larry was a dedicated father who loved spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah (Sackett) Muterspaugh; sons, Gabe and Nate (Emily) Muterspaugh; grandchildren, Eli, Calvin, Mack and Quinn; sister, Alice Corbin; brother, Roger (Linda) Muterspaugh; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Muterspaugh; and stepmother, Joyce Muterspaugh. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation of Hancock County c/o Evan Neumeister Memorial Fund, 971 W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140, or to the Real Life Church, 971 West US Highway 40, Greenfield, IN 46140, or to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852, or by website at https://give.kidneyfund.org.
