Lawrence Harvey Presby Jr (Larry), passed away peacefully after a short illness at the age of 88 on September 3, 2024. He is survived by his wife Rosemarie Presby; son Kevin, daughter Cheryl Birkmier and spouse John and daughter Laurie Mitan and spouse, Mark; grandchildren, David Birkmier, and spouse Lexi, Stephanie Marion and spouse Robert; Adam Birkmier; Matthew Mitan and Elizabeth Mitan and great grandchildren, Logan Birkmier and Rosabella Birkmier.
Larry was born April 6, 1936. After graduating from Littleton High School, he went on to study at Plymouth State University, New Hampshire, where he received his Bachelors degree and a Masters degree from the University of Massachusetts. In 1958, he accepted a faculty position with the English department at Southold High School on Long Island, New York. It was here that he met his future wife Rosemarie Domingos, the high school business teacher. They have been married 64 years.
Larry enjoyed his work as a high school English teacher, served as the Southold Middle School guidance counselor for a period of five years. He taught at Sayville High School for a time and then returned to Southold High School to teach there for a total of 33 years. Both at Plymouth University and Southold High School, Larry was involved with the theater department on stage performing in summer productions in New Hampshire and directing play productions at Southold High School enjoying both tremendously.
He enjoyed sports and was a big supporter of Southold High School soccer team as well as professional teams such as New York Mets and New York Giants
Retiring from teaching after 33 years, Larry and Rosemarie lived in Baldwinsville, New York for 10 years before purchasing a home and moving to Spring Hill, Florida. With plans to enjoy the warm weather Larry was able to pursue his passions, playing golf and writing. Larry completed three published short novels "Moving On", "Along the Way", and "Twice Caught" available on Amazon. During his retirement, Larry enjoyed corresponding with former students and coworkers and would often recollect memories with prior students who warmly remembered their shared time in the classroom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on his behalf to Southold School Educational Foundation (www.southoldef.org).

Our thoughts and prayers are with Rosemarie, Kevin, Cheryle, and Laurie. I worked with Larry and Rosemarie for decades and had all 3 children as students. The Presby family were and are wonderful caring, giving individuals, The children grew up to be thoughtful people in part due to their upbringing and model parents. While teaching, I was always able to seek advice and encouragement from both Larry and Rosemarie. Even after their retirement from teaching we kept in contact and my wife and I continued to receive encouragement from the Presbys when writing our first book and will miss their guidance and friendship. To Rosemarie: we are thinking of you with memories of love, respect and appreciation for your many gifts... Vic Westgate & Lisa Cowlkey
