October 27, 1943 - October 22, 2025
Lawrence 'Larry" C. Rippe passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at the age of 81at the Gables of Germantown. He was reunited with his parents, Charles and Lois (nee Case) Rippe, and his brothers Thomas Rippe and Douglas Rippe.
Lawrence is survived by his sisters-in-laws Diane Conley (Theodore) Torcivia and Jane Langer (Douglas) Rippe, nieces Cathi Rippe Winicki, Michelle Rippe and nephews Scott Rippe (Scott Shaver), Mark (Donelle) Rippe, and Craig Rippe. He is further survived by Kayla Rippe, Malia Rippe, Kyle Schoenfeld, Erin Grossmeyer (Jason) and their children, Gretchyn and Griffin.
Lawrence was born on October 27, 1943, in Chicago, IL. When he was a young lad, the family moved to Two Rivers, Wisconsin and briefly to San Mateo, California. The family returned to Two Rivers where Lawrence was raised and graduated from Washington High School. He continued his education at UW Madison. After graduating from UW Madison, Lawrence enlisted in the Army and was in intelligence in Vietnam where he actively served for 1 year.
When Lawrence returned from Vietnam he proudly served as an Honor Guard for servicemen who had passed. After his tour of duty Lawrence enrolled in the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign, Illinois where he received a law degree. During most of his professional career Lawrence worked in the District Attorney's office in Springfield, Illinois.
Lawrence was a gentle man who had a passion for reading and in his lifetime accumulated thousands of books that made a wonderful library in his apartment. His knowledge of history was remarkable making it easy for him to answer any question about the history of the United States. He had a special fondness for Abraham Lincoln and his political and private life. His one big question of everyone he met was to ask if they read the Constitution and understood the meaning of it. If not, you had a lecture coming your way. Many times, he would pass out a small copy of the Constitution so you would understand how important it was.
Lawrence's second passion in life was traveling extensively throughout the United States and many countries in Europe, the Caribbean and Asia. One of his favorite trips was going to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight and being welcomed by hundreds of people at the airport when they returned.
Lawrence loved the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals but when in Wisconsin he attended the Brewers baseball games with family.
Lawrence resided at the Gables in Germantown where he participated in various trips and activities.
Many thanks to the staff at the Gables of Germantown as well as the excellent care of the Preceptor team during his hospice care.
Larry will have the honor of a special military burial at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin at a future date.
