Lawrence Schnettler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors - Reese Chapel on Dec. 28, 2025.
Lawrence "Larry" Emery Schnettler, 81, of Essexville and formerly of Port Austin, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, in Saginaw, MI. Born on July 16, 1944, in Saginaw, Michigan, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence and Laia (Gollin) Schnettler. His early years were spent in Munger, he attended Emmanuel Lutheran School, and he later graduated from Bay City Central High School. Larry's thirst for knowledge led him to Ferris State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree.
A patriot at heart, Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army, a commitment that shaped much of his character and values. On March 13, 1971, he married Patricia Homrocky at St. Dennis Catholic Church in Royal Oak. Together, they built a life in Sterling Heights before moving to Port Austin, Michigan. Their union was a testament to love until Patricia's passing in 2017.
Professionally, Larry dedicated over 35 years to Ford Motor Company, where he excelled as a sales manager for the entire east coast. His work ethic and leadership were an inspiration to many until his well-deserved retirement. Beyond his professional achievements, Larry was an active and esteemed member of the Port Austin American Legion 499 and a faithful member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Essexville.
In his personal life, Larry was a man who cherished connections. He found love again with a childhood friend, Victoria "Vicki" Bender. Their friendship blossomed into romance, and they spent eight wonderful years together, culminating in their marriage on June 27, 2025. Larry's joy was evident in the life he shared with Vicki, who survives him.
An avid traveler, Larry enjoyed the warm winters of Florida on St. George Island, embracing the beauty and tranquility of the coast. He was a man of simple pleasures, valuing time spent with family and friends, whether sharing a meal or engaging in meaningful conversation.
Larry's legacy continues through his wife, Vicki; her children, Lance (fiancée Jeniffer) Asher, Perry (fiancée Susan) Bender, and Poppy (Kevin) Blach; his five grandchildren, Chelsea (Dominic) Bender, Cassidy (Her fiancé) Bender, Joshua, Tanner, and Christian Blach; and one great-grandchild, Laina. He is also survived by his sister, Kay Timm, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1705 Nebobish Ave. in Essexville, with the Rev. Erwin M. Hutter officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery at 3:00 pm, where Larry will be honored with military honors. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service to pay their respects and celebrate Larry's life. His memory will be cherished, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Those desiring to make a memorial contribution may wish to consider Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Essexville, Christ Lutheran Church in Reese or the Port Austin American Legion 499.
