Lawrence Henry Sprague II went to the loving arms of Jesus on September 13, 2025 surrounded by his family in his home in Durand, Michigan.
Larry was born in Durand on April 19, 1949 to Eunice and Lawrence Sprague I. A lifelong member of the Durand community, he graduated in 1967 with high honors and a star athlete. After high school he received a full ride academic scholarship to Michigan State University, he was the first in his family to attend college. He later received a Master's degree. On July 26, 1969 he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Janet June West. After graduating from MSU he was a Vocational Agriculture Teacher for three years before joining the Agribusiness Industry for which he worked for 47 years helping farmers market their dry edible beans. While working in the industry he served on the Michigan Crop Improvement Board, the Michigan Bean Shippers, Michigan Bean Commission, and the U.S. Dry Bean Council. In addition, to his professional commitments he also served his local community as a chair on the Vernon Township Planning Commission, an active member of Gideon's International, active in his local church missions, and served as a volunteer EMT specialist for Durand Vernon Ambulance. Larry enjoyed farming and woodworking. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Janet; children, Christy Sprague, Holly (Brian) Johnson, and Matthew (Ginnie) Sprague; his 8 grandchildren, Alexandria (Chazz) Miller, Nathan (Katherine) Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Jacob (Charleigh) Sprague, Hannah (Scout) Jones, Daniel (Reagan) Sprague, Micah Sprague, and Gabe Johnson; his 4 great grandchildren, Dawson, Crew, Levi, and Lilly with 2 more on the way. He is survived by his two sisters JoAnn (John) Wiedman and Cindy Allen-Fedor; brothers-in-law Jim (Sue) West and Jerry (Pat) West, and multiple nieces and nephews.
