Lovell H. Gunsell age 88 of Durand, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. A funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 501 N. Saginaw St., Durand, MI 48429. Pastor Jason Dover will be officiating. Burial will follow to Greenwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the service.
Lovell Harvey Gunsell was born on November 17, 1936 in Flint, MI the son of Harvey and Dorothy (Davis) Gunsell. On August 18, 1954 he married Vivian Stork. Lovell enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, fast cars, square dancing with the Locomotion Club, remodeling homes, building different projects with the grandchildren, going to his grandchildren's sporting events, and helping people in need. He built the concession stands for Durand sporting events, was on the sports boosters and was a member of the Lion's Club. Prior to his retirement, Lovell had worked many jobs in his life. Starting at the age of 5 he would repair bicycles for people, at age 7 he had his own paper route, he was a finish carpenter, drywaller, built several homes in the area, owner of Henson and Son's Excavating and worked for the Genesee County Road Commission for 25 years.
Lovell is survived by his wife, Vivian Gunsell of 71 years; children, Gary (Alberta) Gunsell, Constance (Brice) Cole, Kenny (Nancy) Gunsell, Debbie (David) Smith, Douglas (Carol) Gunsell and Rodney (Anne) Gunsell; grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Jason, Alex, Derek, Brent, Tailor, Jonathan and Luke; great grandchildren, Oliver, Zander, Preston, Harper, Finley, Avery, Holden, Hayes, Addison, Connor, Warren and Henry; and sister, Darlene. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Evan Gardner; siblings, Thelma, Beverly and Virginia; parents, Harvey and Dorothy Gunsell.
