Layton Chambers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen Funeral Home and Crematory on Jan. 14, 2026.
Heaven gained a wonderful angel who had a heart of gold with unshakeable faith; Layton Leroy Chambers, 76, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026. A man everyone looked up to and loved. He is with the Lord now. He lived by the words of Matthew 22:37. Layton didn't just know God's word- he lived it. We take comfort in God's promise that there is no more pain or sorrow. Well done, good and faithful servant-Matthew 25:21. That was "you," Layton. We all loved you. The best husband, dad, pappy, brother, and uncle we could have asked for.

Layton was born on May 31, 1949, in Bloomington to Roy Olan and Glodine (Terrell) Chambers. He married Candetta "Candy" (Beck) Chambers on May 22, 1976.

Layton graduated from Smithville High School in 1968 and worked for the post office after graduation. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 until 1973, during which time he became a Sergeant. He went on to work in explosives for Crane Naval Support Activity until his retirement in 1994. He later also retired from the Department of Natural Resources.

He was a devout man of God and witness to His Glory; Layton loved to go out and tell people about Jesus. He enjoyed attending services at Apostolic Bible Church and the Messianic Christian Jewish services held at Amanz and Kathy's home. Layton loved being with his family and always wanted everyone to stay together. He also enjoyed mushroom and ginseng hunting.

Layton is survived by two children, Ryan Matthew (Ashley) and Korina; six grandchildren, Ryan Scott, Jaxson, Kallie, Aaron, Andrew, and Bella Grace; sister, Roslyn (Larry) Perry; brothers in-law, Roger (Tina) Beck and Chuck; sister in-law, Bonnie (Dan) Emerick; mother in-law, Sandra (Arthur) Chevalier; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Layton Aaron; and siblings, Harold Floyd, John, and Joanne.

A funeral service for Layton will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the start of the service. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.

My deepest condolences for your loss. My heart is breaking for all of you. Layton was such a special man. He was unique in so many ways. I'll always remember that God was his number one subject to talk about to anyone. He was always one to reach out and help someone. Shortly after Rikki and I met..she introduced me to Layton...and from that day on, I knew I had just met someone very special. I will pray for all that are grieving..and ask the God's love and comfort will carry you all through. Sincerely, Mandy Neal
