Leah Ann Herkel, age 79, of Fox Lake, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Leah was born on Sunday, January 13, 1946, to Ronald and Mildred (Uhlmann) Baileys. Leah was a proud 1965 graduate of Foreman High School in Chicago.
Leah furthered her education at Wright Junior College before beginning her career with the Chicago Board of Human Resources, working as a hearing and eye tester for the Chicago Public School System- a position she held with pride until her retirement in 2007. Leah absolutely loved dancing and clubbing, and she always seemed to know the best places to eat- especially Polish and Asian buffets. She was no stranger to Rush Street in her younger years; Leah was forever the life of the party with a quick wit and incredible sense of humor. In 2006 Leah moved to Leisure Village in Fox Lake where she enjoyed an active social life. Leah's most favorite activity was floating in the pool with friends 6-8 hours a day during the summer. She was adored by many and leaves behind a legacy of fun, laughter and cherished memories.
Leah is survived by her sister, Deborah and her brother-in-law, Keith Ewert. Leah was a loving sister and will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by her loving parents, and her beloved husband, the love of her life, Daniel Lacko who passed away on February 18, 1997.
Private services will be held at a later date.
