Leah May Normann, 88, of Middlesex, North Carolina, passed away on June 26, 2025, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was born on May 6, 1937, in Marion County, Oregon, to Melwood and Beth (Wheeler) Van Scoyoc.
Leah is survived by her brother Stuart Van Scoyoc and wife Dotty, daughter Cynthia Kreyling and husband James, son Brian Normann and wife Mary Jo, son David Normann and wife Lori, grandchildren, Graham Normann, John Tyler Normann, Allan Whitlinger, Michael Whitlinger, and great granddaughter Olivia Normann, along with her companion, Pepper, her spoiled dog.
Leah was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Jerry Normann, sister Mary McMillan and brother Gardner Van Scoyoc, and her granddaughter Maran Normann.
Leah will be remembered for her devotion to the Lord, her love of family and her 45 years of harmonious marriage to her high school sweetheart, Jerry Normann. Her simplicity in life and minimalist approach to living, along with her wonderful sense of humor, were her defining qualities.
She generously supported missionaries and the church and was a gentle witness to her faith in her interactions with others. She enjoyed international travel, conversations and laughter with friends and family, gardening, interior decorating, and her loyal pets. La Farm sourdough bread and Wendy's Frosties were always a hit. She enjoyed baking, celebrating holidays, and never failed in making her famous Apple Pie (and the pie crust from scratch!). Leah was an insatiable reader. She loved music and playing the piano and was a wizard at the game of Scrabble.
Professionally, Leah challenged herself after having children by completing college and gaining a degree in elementary education from George Mason University. She taught preschool children, and prior to her teaching career worked in retail serving customers with patience and flair.
Her friends and family will remember her most for her love of God, her quick wit, her reliably grounded wisdom, and her sense of fairness and balance in all things. She was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother, and a dear and loyal friend. Her stated final wishes were that all her loved ones be drawn to salvation and eternal life in our Savior Jesus Christ.
But please do not refer to her as Leah May. She preferred just Leah.
Leah lived a life that amplified the meaning of her name, "endurance, perseverance, and the unexpected fruits of hidden labor."
A memorial service will be held at Cary Alliance Church, located at 4108 Ten Ten Road, Apex, NC 27539 on Friday, July 11th at 3pm with Pastor Tom Becker officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Cary Alliance Church, and designated for the Great Commission Fund, which supports missionaries.
