Leigh Dunn Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wood Funeral Service - Chase City on Oct. 1, 2025.
On September 29, 2025, the ray of sunshine and ball of light that is Leigh Anne Dunn dimmed and passed away after a brief fight with cancer. She was born on February 18, 1967 to Gloria Lawrence Crowell in Succasunna, New Jersey. The family moved to Lawrenceville, Va when she was two years old. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Matthew and their daughter, Lane; her brother, David Lawrence; and his son, Thor. She was preceded in death by her mother, her brother Robert "Corky" Crowell & sister, Tammy Crowell Simmons.
Leigh Anne has been a registered nurse since 1995. She healed and cared for many patients during her career. She won numerous awards for nurse of the month and preceptor of the month. It was her passion to train new nurses. Many nurses have told her over the years that she was the best teacher they have ever had. And it was her foundation that led them to be great nurses. She often said "train them how you want to work with them". It was her honor to teach the new nurses how to be not just a care giver but a patient advocate. On more than a few occasions, she has had doctors whose family members were in the hospital say, "if Leigh Anne is working, she will be my mother's nurse". There can be no greater honor in her profession than for the doctors to request you above all others.
Although she was a proud nurse, she was prouder of her marriage to Matt. She was often heard to say "my Mr. Dunn" when referring to him. He in turn referred to her as "my Mrs. Dunn". They met in 1986, married in 1991 and have been devoted ever since. Their devotion to each other allowed them to succeed together as a team. Together they put her through nursing school, built a home and then a family with the birth of Lane. Their love was built on mutual respect as equals, each half of a whole. There was a spark of love each time they saw each other. Matt's heart jumped for joy just seeing her and in turn she radiated on seeing him.
What she was most proud of was their daughter Lane. She beams with the same light as Leigh Anne. She loved being her mother. She would often tell Lane that "she was the center of the universe" and then Matt would add "but not anyone else's, don't forget that!". Her favorite title in life was "Lane's mom". She was her number one cheerleader whether it was an awards banquet, a graduation, or simply baking a cake. She was always encouraging, and hugging, and kissing, and squeezing Lane until Lane would laugh and have to push her off. It was a love that will exist past life and be with us always.
