Leigh Ellen Matsel

Leigh Ellen Matsel, 70, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, after a period of declining health. Born August 30, 1953 in Cambridge, she was a daughter of the late William E. Fisher, Jr. and Barbara S. (Maurer) Fisher.
After growing up in Newcomerstown and having been graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1971, Leigh furthered her education at West Liberty State University where she earned her degree in education. She enjoyed a long career teaching junior high English at Claymont Public Schools and had resided in Uhrichsville for over 43 years. She was a longtime member of Uhrichsville First Moravian Church.
Leigh will be deeply missed by her surviving family which includes her son, Kaleb Matsel; step-children who she raised as her own, Wayne (Shannon) Matsel, Rochelle (companion, Shay) Simon-Matsel, and beloved granddaughter, Ellie Matsel; sister and brother-in-law, Kayte and Paul Marstrell; brother and sister-in-law, Carl "Chine" and Sandra Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.
Pastor Dave Geyer will officiate a 6:00 p.m. funeral on Monday, January 29, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, prior to the service. Those wishing to honor her memory by a donation are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
