Leland "Lee" Walton Wasdin, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home on June 4, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a dedicated Marine and Lieutenant with the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, whose life was marked by service, integrity, and love for his community and family.
Born on May 8, 1947, Lee enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served with honor and distinction. His commitment to duty and excellence earned him the respect of his colleagues and superiors alike. After his honorable service in the Marine Corps, Lee continued his calling to serve by joining the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, where he dedicated himself to protecting and serving the citizens of his community. Rising through the ranks, he retired as a Lieutenant in 1998, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, leadership, and dedication.
Beyond his service, Lee was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 26 years, Jan. Their bond was unbreakable, a testament to the strength of their love and partnership. He was also a cherished father to Leland "Chip" (Nicole) Wasdin, Wendy (Kevin) Reynolds, and Dathan Auerbach. Their love and laughter brought him immeasurable happiness and immense pride. He supported them unwaveringly throughout their lives.
Lee was also blessed with four grandchildren, Steven, Jordan, Lane, and Jessica, and one great grandchild, Luna, who brought him pride and joy.
Lee will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy of service and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A Memorial visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Friday, June 14, 2024 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, 1000 S. Highway 29, Cantonment, Florida 32533. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Vitas Hospice in Lee's memory.

To the Wasdin family, I worked for the Pensacola Police Dept. during the same time period that Lee worked with ECSO. We crossed paths multiple times over the years. Lee was kind, friendly and he had empathy for others which I always respected him for. He also had a great sense of humor. May God Bless the Wasdin family and friends.
