Colonel Leland K. Wolfe

Leland Wolfe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hightower's Memorial Chapel - Douglasville on Dec. 29, 2025.
Colonel Leland K. Wolfe, 92, of Winston, Georgia, passed away on December 27, 2025. He was born on September 2nd, 1933, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to John and Margaret Wolfe. He was a faithful husband to Janetta Wolfe and a loving father to Craig Wolfe and Lynne Wolfe Bunn. He was blessed with four granddaughters, Brittany, Beth, Sadie, and Ava.
The Colonel was devoted to his career in the United States Air Force where he served for 32 years. His last assignment was at Dobbins Air Force Base where he was in charge of aircraft maintenance. He earned his rank of Colonel while serving there. Earlier in his military career, he was a pilot in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His love for flying remained a passion all of his days and he continued flying at 80 years of age.
The Colonel spent many years in Douglas County, molding young men in The Boy Scouts of America as leader of Troop 626. He achieved the highest leadership award that The Boy Scouts give, The Silver Beaver, just as his father did years before him.
In 1987, he became a founding member of Douglasville Baptist Temple where he served in many capacities in his 38 years there. He was a deacon, as well as the general handyman of the church until he could no longer physically complete those tasks. His love for missionaries around the world was evident and he traveled to Mexico to distribute Bibles and to help with maintenance issues at the missionary's campus. He loved to meet and encourage missionaries as they visited the church, often offering them shelter and support while home on furlough.
His greatest accomplishment was his family though. He never wavered in his pride for his wife, his children, their spouses, and especially his granddaughters. He loved it most when all of the family was together and his pride was always evident.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings, Don, Larry and Cathey. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jan, his two children and their spouses, Craig and Karen Wolfe, John and Lynne Bunn, granddaughters, Brittany and Beth Jordan, Sadie and Ava Bunn and one sister, Melissa Wolfe.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Saturday, January 3rd, 2026 at Hightower's Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 4th at Douglasville Baptist Temple with Rev. Ikey Watson and Pastor Danny West officiating.
Interment will be held at Georgia National Cemetery.
