Leo Kottman Obituary
September 14th, 1941 – January 20th, 2025
Leo Charles Kottman passed away peacefully at the age of 83 in Massillon, OH on January 20, 2025. He was born September 14, 1941, in Freeport, Illinois. He was the son of the late Lowell C. Kottman and Mildred R. (Smith) Kottman.
Leo graduated from Winnebago High School, Winnebago, IL in 1959 and shortly after joined the U.S. Marine Corp., achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. During his time in the Marine Corp. he was deployed in the Cuban Missile Crisis, served as security for the Blue Angels at the Miramar Naval Air Station, and finally transferred to San Diego to serve aboard the USS Columbus deployed in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. After ten years of service to his country, Leo was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corp.
After his service, Leo became a long-haul truck driver for many years. He was a very proud and lovely human being who enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Karen I. (Kottman) Mantooth, and his son Mark A. Kottman.
He is survived by his loving and devoted partner, Karen Gerry, Barberton, OH, his children, Mathew, Michael, Morgan, four grandchildren, Alaina C. (Kottman) Earlywine, Charlotte, NC, three great-grandchildren, niece, Kristine A. (Miller) Hillyard, Fairplay, MD, nephew, Darin S. Miller, Bainbridge, NY, many close friends include Efrain Martinez, Andrea Ramirez Kirkpatrick, Carlos Ramirez, Fairplay, MD, Chris and Kevin Herston, Hudson, OH, Mike Davis and Les Booth, Woburn, MA, Stephen and Brittany Herston, Urbana, OH, Emily and Michael Planz, Copley, OH, Meghan Herston Hudson, OH as well as many cousins.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation or memorial service per his request. The final resting place will be Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273.
