Leo Pangerl passed away peacefully on October 23rd at the age of 94 surrounded by family at Timber Pines in Pine City, MN. He was born on June 3rd, 1931 to August and Mertyl Pangerl east of Pine City on the family farm, where he spent the best years of his life.
Leo grew up on the family farm and graduated from the county school after completing 8th grade. He met the love of his life at The Topic Ballroom on a blind date. Leo and Lorraine were married two months later on July 23rd, 1955. He was married to the love of his life for a wonderful 59 years.
During his younger years, he worked on the railroad and helped build Interstate 35, after which he worked the family farm. Leo and Lorraine proudly ran the family farm until 1987. During these farming days, Leo and Lorraine raised seven daughters and one son. He taught all of his kids to work hard and play harder! Later in life, he worked at Nelson’s Country Market until 2016. He met a lot of people who loved him there - he was the best carryout in town!
He loved his tractors, especially John Deere, going to tractor pulls and threshing shows, and spending time with everyone at the Pine County beer gardens. He also loved snowmobile and motorcycle riding. Leo loved everyone! He loved spending time with his friends, neighbors, and especially his large family. Leo was always up for a good time and loved inviting everyone for a party on the farm - some of the biggest and best times were had at the Pangerl farm!
Leo was the kindest soul, happiest man, loved his family, and loved his friends. Leo’s life motto was, “Work hard, play harder” and “It is what it is.” He always had a genuinely positive and happy attitude, and simply loved people and loved life. When saying goodbye, he would always end with “Love you, love you, love you, bye, love you.” And he always had to have the last “love you.”
Leo is survived by Lynn Lindstrom (Daryl), Judy Pangerl, Rob Pangerl (Kari), Shelly Johnson (Larry), Laurie Kryzer (Danny), Sue Lane (Mark), Maria Baker (Tommy), Jenny Holman (Jeff). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
