Leo Edward Vance, 84, of Sanford passed away on Tuesday September 21, 2021. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 25, 2021, at 5pm at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home.
He was born in Logan County WV to the late Leo Vance and Florence Mills Vance. He very proudly served our country as a Marine in his younger years. After his enlistment he worked as a coal miner until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing especially at the pond on his property. He even had a prized trophy fish that he kept on the wall in the kitchen of his home. Though he sometimes came across as stubborn, those that knew him best knew he was a loving and caring person and a great and reliable friend. He loved spending his time with his grandchildren, who he often called into his bedroom to sneak them money. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister Betty Jean Lyons.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Frances Yacamino Vance; daughter Diana Frye (Raymond Jr.); son Steven Vance; grandchildren Laura Frye Fallin, Natalie Frye Slocomb, and Bradley Vance; great-grandchildren Jayson Edward Frye, Ava Fallin, Charlotte Fallin, and Caleb Slocomb; brother Keith Edward Maynard; sisters Jeanie Fortune and Janie Napier (David); brother-in-law Johnny Yacamino; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to 1HOPE Assembly Of God, 1922 Henley Road, Sanford, NC 27330.
