Leo R. Zahler, age 77, of Annandale, died Thursday, December 11, 2025, at his home with family at his side.
Memorial Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Annandale.
Leo Ralph Zahler was born on October 24, 1948, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to Milford and Theresa (Tellers) Zahler. He grew up in Kimball, where he graduated from high school. Leo served in the United States Army Reserves.
Leo was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Carol Schmit, on May 17, 1969, in Watkins, Minnesota. They began their family in New Hope before making the decision to settle in Annandale and raise their two children. For a couple of years, Leo owned and operated JJ's Bar in Annandale, before transitioning to a career with Hennen Construction.
His passions were as diverse as they were simple: from joyfully cruising in his golf cart and relishing in the thrill of old, fast cars to spending serene days on the water and enjoying the warmth of family gatherings at the lake. Leo found solace in the great outdoors, whether he was golfing with friends or simply soaking in the beauty of nature. An aficionado of Westerns, Leo often found himself captivated by shows such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza, while also enjoying the competition of Family Feud. Leo's greatest legacy lies in the love he fostered within his family and his favorite people, his grandkids.
He is survived by his children, Michelle Neises (Tim Gutzke) of Annandale and Jamie Zahler of South Haven; grandchildren, Abigail and Ashley Neises and Isabelle and Sophia Zahler; bonus grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Gutzke; brother-in-law, Jerry Manke of Annandale; companion, Rita Mitchell; and nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by parents; wife, Carol; and siblings, Elaine Manke and Eugene Zahler.
Leo's grandchildren will serve as urn bearers. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
