Leon C. Danielson loving husband, father, and "Papa", of East Bridgewater, MA passed away on October 13, 2024.
Leon "Lee" was the son of late Eric and Lydia Danielson and brother and brother-in-law to the late Eric Danielson who is survived by his wife Gloria Danielson and Wayne and Alice Danielson. He is survived by his loving wife Eleanor Danielson. Lee was the proud father and father-in-law to Vicki and Roger Maderia, Keith and Dina Danielson, and Aron and Devon Danielson. He was known as Papa to his eight grandchildren – Erica, Alexandria, Julia, Eva, Emily, Lillian, Matthew, and Grace as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
In 1961, Lee met Ellie at Burlington High School, fell in love, and were married for 58 years. Lee grew up in an environment where family was everything and it was evident he carried this through to his own life. His parents settled on the hill in Burlington with his grandparents down the bottom of the hill and his aunt, uncle and cousins next door. Lee took this vision and along with Ellie worked to have this way of living for his own family who were all able to live and grow
up together.
He was also a hard worker and after graduation attended Bently College, at night, and earned his bachelor's degree in accounting. His first job was at the Mercury/Fishbach & Moore in Norwood as an Accountant. He formed his own commercial cleaning company during this time, VIARKE, named after his three children. Lee left the accounting world and began a second career as a Safety Manager for O'Connor Construction. There he was instrumental in creating the needed safety culture to ensure the longevity of the company. The safety program he developed including the safety rescue protocols were modeled and he was invited to serve on the National Safety Board.
Lee and his family moved to East Bridgewater in 1979 and quickly became part of the community. Lee and Ellie both were active with their children's activities including boy and girls' scouts and coached and cheered for many sports teams. The Jimmy Fund was a big part of those early days in East Bridgewater and where they made lifelong friendships. Lee had many hobbies and loved to tease and joke around. He was a pool player, card player, hunter/trapper, golfer and played in the bocce league for the 49ers and Lincoln clubs. He and Ellie travelled with many family trips as well as cruises with the "casino crew".
Lee joined the East Bridgewater Commercial Club in 1981 and was honored with a lifetime membership after decades of service. He was very active in promoting the club. He helped to create The Raymond "Babe" Robideau and Joe Kelley Scholarship fund and co-chaired the Charlie Thomas Fund who provides aid to local families in the community. As well as serving on the board of directors, he held the office of Treasurer and dedicated many volunteer hours to so many EBCC functions and coaching in EBCC youth football program.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday, October 18th from 4pm-7pm at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, MA. Funeral service and burial will be held on Saturday, October 19th at 10am and burial will be at the Central Cemetery in East Bridgewater.
In lieu of flowers, you may choose to support The Jimmy Fund or plant a tree through A Living Tribute. Lee enjoyed growing Japanese maple trees from seeds and giving them to those he loved.
