Leon Shanks Obituary
Leon, 95 years young, departed this life peaceably at the Diversicare Rehabilitation of Quitman, MS.
Leon fathered a son in a previous relationship, Bill (Vanessa) Kirksey of Chicago, IL. Later he met and married Lou Vennie Heidelberg in October 16, 1952. To this union was born six children: Willie James, Katie, Lavinyah, Emma of Glen Burnie MD, Chester Junior and Earnest Ray.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, two sons Chester and Willie James and daughter, Lavinyah and sixteen siblings.
Leon enjoyed working for the Timber Industry. He also had a great love for fishing, hunting, and he enjoyed showing family and friends his catfish pond. Leon was a very loving & kind hearted person and he had a great love for his grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his wife, four children, ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren. And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will all miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Cemetery in the DeSoto community (Shubuta).
There will be a viewing period Saturday, June 29, 2024 from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM at Bethel United Methodist Church in DeSoto.
