Leon Ivey Simmons Sr. Known as “Flash” was born July 14th, 1956 to the late Vivian S. Childs and Lewis Wilson Sr. At an early age he confessed Christ. Leon attended Thomasville High School and is a graduate of 1974. He retired from The Port of Savannah where he dedicated a lot of his time.
Leon had a remarkable way of making those around feel valued, whether through his warm smile, words of wisdom, or quiet acts of generosity. To his family he was a source of love and encouragement, to his friends, a loyal companion, and to his community a man of honor and respect. Above all he cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. His greatest joy was found in spending time with those he loved.
His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his kids: Latonya Mitchell (Thomasville, Ga), Cortez Cheatem (Gainesville,Fl), Dravares Simmons (Latoya) Tallahasee, FL , Monieca Daniels- Williams (Morris) Cairo, Ga, Chris Henderson (Charlie) Locust Grove, Ga, Sequoyah Johnson (Atlanta, Ga), Topreka Grant- Dean (Jackosnville, Fl), Nikki Sparks (Braselton, Ga), Jerome Johnson, Kevin Grant (both of Atlanta, Ga), Leroy Christopher (Tallahassee,Fl); three sisters: Brenda Wilson (Stephon), Barbara Wilson (both of Thomasville, Ga), Distarling Childs-Wilson (Decatur,Ga); nine brothers: Al Childs, Charlie Wilson (Ella), Morris Wilson (Sheila) all of Thomasville, Ga, A Jay Childs (Charlene) Killeen, Texas, La Roy Childs (Topeka, Kansas), Terrance Childs (Atlanta, Ga), Johnny Wilson (Jacqueline) Leesburg, Fl, BIlly Wilson (Marie) Pheonix City, Al, Lewis Wilson Jr. (Christina) Columbia, Sc, and a host of grandkids, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends.
Leon is proceeded in death by: Vivian S. Childs, Lewis Wilson Sr., Brenda Pettis- Simmons, Sonja Daniels- Simmons, Leon Ivey Simmons Jr.
