Leona Kinchen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home - Hammond on Dec. 17, 2025.
Leona, age 85, joined her husband in heaven on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the people she loved most and who loved her deeply. A native of Clearfield and a longtime resident of Hammond, LA, Leona was truly one of a kind. She never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome the moment they met her. Leona loved the outdoors, whether it was deer hunting or sitting quietly watching hummingbirds flutter by. She had a deep passion for genealogy and history, especially when it came to learning, preserving, and sharing her family's story is something she took great pride in. Above all else, she loved Jesus, and her faith guided her life in both big and small ways. Her family was always her greatest priority, and everything she did was rooted in love for them. She was a devoted wife, a caring mother, a proud grandmother, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend. Leona leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family that will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.

Leona is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Kinchen, Judy McLain (Russell), and Robin Noto (Michael); her grandchildren, Brandi, Steven "Bubba", Brandon, April, Jessica, Tyler, Michael Jr., and Laura; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Leona was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl "Buck" Kinchen; her daughter, Betty Jean Kinchen; her parents, Charles and Theresa Norman; her brother, Bill Norman; and her sisters, Jackie Genco, Mable Smith, and Nancy Sparks.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at the Chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 West, Hammond, LA, on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Mitch Williams will officiate, with interment to follow at Gatlin Cemetery.
