Leona Mae Schoffstall, 94, of West Terre Haute passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in her home surrounded by family.

She was born April 29, 1930, in Vigo County to Fred Joseph Peters and Myrtle Belle Wheatstine Peters.

Known to many as Mom, Grandma or Aunt Mae, she spent her life as a homemaker, caring for her loved ones. She took pride in gardening and her flowers.

Survivors include, four daughters, Judith Buchanan, Marilyn Buchanan (Don), Marsha Poppe (Herman) and Jacqueline Poppe of West Terre Haute; three sons, David Schoffstall (Linda) of Ashburn, Georgia, Paul Schoffstall (Sandy), and Jack Schoffstall (Judy) of Terre Haute. Leona is also survived by one sister, Virginia Shattuck; 26 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jack Schoffstall, Sr.; son, Roland Schoffstall; sons-in-law, Edward Buchanan and Jerry Poppe, daughter-in-law, Stella Schoffstall; grandsons, Jerry Poppe, Jr. and Matthew Buchanan; great grandson, Dylan Pannell, as well as, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd Street, West Terre Haute, Indiana. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Pastor Randy Smith will be officiating; burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to the Assembly of God Church, 708 W. National Ave., West Terre Haute, for a meal after graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Assembly of God Church, West Terre Haute. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Notes of condolence may be left at: www.fitzpatick-funeralhome.com.
