Leonard Moncayo Chairez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, entered into eternal rest with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Born on December 8, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas. Leo was the third of four children born to Fernando and Teodora Moncayo Chairez. His life was marked by faith, love, and devotion to his family. Leo is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Andrea Garcia, Fernando Chairez, Jimmy Chairez, son Peter Chairez and wife Carolina Chairez.
He is survived by his loving children: Yvonne Pogue (Jim), Leo Chairez Jr. (Wendy), and Mandy Smith (Adam). Leo also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, including: Yvonne: Jimmie Pogue (Andi), Thomas Pogue (Fia), Mark Pogue, Michael Pogue (Nayomi), Jennifer Pogue, and Abigail Pogue, Mandy: Sloan Pilgrim, Adam Smith, Aubrey Smith, Peter: Peter Chairez Jr., Philip Chairez, Jordan Mireles (Eric), Chloe Deleon (Billy) and Alexa Chairez (Michael Garcia).
He is further survived by his 14 great-grandchildren: Emily Chairez, Phillip Jr. Chairez, Phalisia Chairez, Aubrey Chairez, Dominic Mireles, Cataleya Mireles, Amaziah Deleon, Benjamin Deleon, Elliana Garcia, Jace Pogue, Ellie Pogue, Jodecii Pogue and Bluebonnet Pogue as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Leo loved life and enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. His loving wife, Carolina was instrumental in leading him to a relationship with his Lord, Jesus Christ. His memory will forever bring a smile to the faces of those that knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday November 6, 2025, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, 1700 SE Military Dr. San Antonio, TX 78214. The service will begin at 11:00am with visitation opening at 10:00am. The burial will follow at Mission Park South, located near 1700 S.E. Military Dr. San Antonio, TX 78214.
Pallbearers are Philip Chairez, James Chairez, Fernando Chairez, Peter Chairez Jr., Philip Chairez, Jimmie Pogue, Tom Pogue, Mark Pogue and Micheal Pogue.
