Austin "AJ" Chairez, age 31, of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away on September 5, 2025. AJ was born on June 8, 1994, in Clovis, New Mexico. From the very beginning, he had a spark that drew people in. Those who knew him will remember his sharp mind, quick wit, and the way he could bring laughter to any room.
Though he faced struggles in his life, he was truly the sweetest young man-thoughtful, caring, and always ready with a smile or helping hand. And he will be remembered most for the love he showed to his family and friends.
The greatest joy and light of AJ's life was his beloved son, Esias. He was a devoted father whose love and pride for his son shined through in every part of his life.
AJ was incredibly focused and determined, qualities that defined much of his journey. He loved football and was a proud and loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan, cheering them on every season. Beyond his passions, it was his humor, generosity, and warmth that left the deepest impression on his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Esias Cardenas-Chairez; parents Avelino and Jan Chairez of Clovis, NM, Leona and Albert Tijerena of Clovis, NM; his sister Priscilla Chairez of Clovis, NM; his brothers, Albert Tijerena Jr.(Kayla) of Clovis, NM, Michael Tijerena (Jennifer)of LaVilla, TX; his grandfather Alex Romero of Clovis, NM and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Priscilla Romero, Lupe and Claudio Vela, his uncle David Chairez, and cousin CiDen Chairez.
He will be remembered as a loving father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend whose presence brightened the lives of everyone around him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Highland Baptist Church on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., MST. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of AJ's life, to share stories, and to celebrate the joy he brought to so many. Burial to follow at Mission Garden of Memories, 2900 W. 7th Street. His honorary pallbearers are his cousins, nieces, nephews, Eric Hernandez, Alex "Gary" Martinez, Marco Chavarria, Matthew Mascarenas, David Vela, and Dominique Chairez.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support they have received during this difficult time. AJ's memory will live on in Esias, and in the laughter, kindness, and love he gave so freely.
