Leonard Earl Healy, born on October 9, 1927, of Robbinsdale passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025. He was 98 years old. Leonard preceded in death by his parents Homer and Edna, his 7 siblings, his wife of 70 years, Florence, daughter Lynn, son David, son-in-law Michael and many other family members, friends and fellow church members. He is survived by his son Donald and daughter Kathleen. He is also survived by his many Grandchildren: Michelle, John (Rachel), Lisa, Jake (Abby), Ryan, Trevor, Austin (Sami) and Derek (Bailey); Great Grandchildren: Angela, Danielle, Adrianna, Meghan, Norah, Penelope and Silas; Great-Great Grandchildren: Khloe, Brooklyn, Harvey and Mikenna, plus many other family members, friends and fellow church members.
As the sixth child of eight children, Leonard was raised as a compassionate man who was dedicated to his family, which he remained his entire life. As a young man, two of his brothers had Muscular Dystrophy. This was a great challenge in the early part of the 19 Century. He cared for his brothers endlessly. He created homemade wheelchairs and generously carried them along, quite literally, when doing fun things like hanging out with friends. He made sure they were taken care of before doing anything else, unconditionally.
Leonard and Florence "Babe" met roller skating at Northside Roller Rink and were married in 1944. As a couple, they defined "Two Become One" while serving their church, community and traditional family time together. They raised their four children with kind values, strong faith, and how to be loyal friends and family members. As a family, they took camping trips, enjoyed picnics and time together - especially during the holidays. All of which of these traits have been handed down to their 3 generations of Grandchildren.
Leonard was very devoted in his faith in God and served as a member at Fairview Lutheran /King of Grace Lutheran Church in Golden Valley. He served by singing in the choir, assisted in the opening of the school, served as the custodian and was an overall handyman.
Leonard grew up on the North side of Minneapolis. He became a resident of Robbinsdale in 1950. He and Florence watched the city grow from being farmland to what it is today. They spent many years at Wiz Bang Days parades and fireworks from the top of the North Memorial Hospital ramp. Leonard was a very talented craftsman and loved to tell stories which often came hand-in-hand. In his later years, he would drive his scooter around the Robbinsdale and Minneapolis area while handing out his hand-made wooden crosses to those in the community while often sharing stories and making new friends. He also enjoyed working in the yard, caring for the fish in the backyard pond, watching football and playing solitaire. Some special things he liked was to go sightseeing on trips with his daughter Lynn, telling old stories to his daughter Kathy, spending time together at home with his best buddy and son Donald, and working on his grandson's cars with his son David.
If you can imagine being born in 1927, Len held many different jobs - it was more based on 'who he knew' and then he would be trained hands-on. He sold papers on the street, retreaded tires at Northside Tire, did small engine repair on outboard motors at Scott Atwater, various jobs at Big Lake Roller Rink and calibrated filling station pumps with Zahl Equipment company, and lastly a custodian and handyman at King of Grace Lutheran Church. After 68 years of working, he retired at 80 years old. For the years after retirement, you would find him working full time in his workshop building and fixing things. He was very talented and found joy in helping people with whatever they wanted or needed.
Dad, Grandpa, Church Member, Friend, Neighbor and Community Member will be greatly missed. He made this world a better place with his smile, hug, high-fives, conversations, teachings, positive attitude, generosity, strength and always willingness to lend a hand - unconditionally. His legacy will live on through us forever. May he deservingly Rest in Peace with his greatest love, Florence, and all others that he has joined with our Savior Jesus Christ.
