Leonard Kopplin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beyers Funeral Home & Crematory - Leesburg on Feb. 6, 2026.
Leonard William Kopplin, age 85, passed away on February 4, 2026, at Celebration Villa Assisted Living Facility in Tavares, Florida.

Leonard was born March 11, 1940 to Wesley and Florence Ottow Kopplin in Columbus, Wisconsin. He was a twin to Leroy Kopplin, who predeceased him in 1999. A sister, Phyllis Kopplin Griffith, died in 2021. A nephew, Scott Kopplin, also died in 2021. Special note of nieces, Colleen Johnson, Annette Blanco (Robert), and nephews, Glenn Griffith and Todd Griffith.

Leonard married Janice Packel in 1964, and together they raised four children: Stuart Kopplin (Elizabeth Coombe) of Cazenovia, NY; Constance Cassler (Michael) of Palm Bay, Florida; Paul Kopplin of Washington, DC; and Elizabeth Chitester (Kenneth) of Elmhurst, IL. In 1986, Leonard married Bethanne Hardman and lovingly embraced her two children as his own: John Arthur Napolitano, Jr. (deceased 2022) and Jill Napolitano Hamilton (David) of Thomasville, NC.

Grandchildren are Andrew Kopplin, Henry Kopplin, Eleanor Kopplin, Sylvia Cassler, Josh Cassler, Samuel Cadena, Cristina Napolitano (son, Dominick), Jacen Hamilton (Marissa and daughter, Sage), Joshuah Hamilton (Arielle), Mary Olivia Hamilton (Andrew), and Bethany Li Hamilton.

Leonard worked as General Manager of Inter County Farmers Co-op in Woodridge, NY. He belonged to the Hagen Hunting Club for many years and loved to go deer hunting with that group. After marrying Bethanne, he moved to Wallkill, NY, where he worked at Cabletronix in Newburgh.

In 1992, Leonard and Bethanne moved to West Virginia, where he worked for Mountaineer Marts. He retired in 1996 and moved to Leesburg, FL, where he worked for William Schmidt Financial Services for a few years.

Leonard loved the Lord and was a member of Lake Square Presbyterian Church (now GraceWay). He taught, sang in the choir, and served as an Elder. Anyone who knows Leonard well will remember his powerful prayers.

Leonard was in the Army and played with the Army band on many occasions while in the service. He loved to tell about being stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood (Ft. Lost in the Woods). He enjoyed World War II movies and books and was a Tom Clancy fanatic. Read them as well as Webb Griffin often. He enjoyed shooting sports and camping with a special love for the outdoors. He enjoyed owning many dogs in his lifetime and had good memories of them, especially Britt and Sally.

Memorial donations may be sent to GraceWay Church, 10220 Morningside Dr, Leesburg, FL 34748.
