Leonard Vergil Lee, of Appleton, WI and formerly of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024. He was born on February 25, 1939, to the late Leonard and Anna (Mika) Lee.
He went to St. John Grade School, Menasha, and attended Novitiate at the Franciscan Order of Friars, Pulaski, WI. Leonard served as a Brother of the Franciscan Order traveling to the Republic of the Philippines where he worked as a Catholic Missionary and visiting faculty at Christ the King College in Calbayog City, Samar. It is there where he met his partner in life Minadora “Dorie” Lee. They were married on December 22, 1971, at St. James Church in Santa Margarita. In 1976 they returned to the United States with sons, David and Raymond and began a new life together in Oshkosh, WI. Leonard worked for over 20 years for the Winnebago County Maintenance Department, retiring in 2004. Leonard loved fishing and the outdoors, playing organized softball in the Oshkosh Senior League and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Dorie, his parents, brothers Don Lee, David Lee, and Lyle Lee and sister-in-law Judith Lee. He is survived by his sister Sister Leann (Diane) Lee, sisters-in-law Karen Lee and Joyce Lee, sons David (Hetal) Lee, Glendale Heights, IL; Raymond (Marina) Lee, Neenah; nephews Daniel (Mary) Lee, Sherwood; Shannon (Carie) Lee of Neenah; Jason (Annie) Lee, Neenah; Christopher (Carey) Lee, Madison; nieces Michelle (Adam) Knapp, Menasha, and Jennifer Lee, Menasha, and special friend Audrey Murphy.
Leonard was our rock and our example. Friend to many, he will be remembered for his gentle nature, devotion of purpose, and easy smile. You are loved by so many. Watch over us.
The family would also like to acknowledge the compassion and care shown by Valley VNA, Neenah and The Heritage, Appleton for Leonard in the final season of his life.
A visitation for Leonard will take place on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 1:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm at Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri County Chapel, 1592 Oneida St., Menasha 54952.
