Leonard Andrew "Andy" Schmidt

Leonard Andrew "Andy" Schmidt, age 71, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away on July 14, 2025. Born on April 6, 1954, in Newton, Kansas, Andy was the son of Edward and Anne (James) Schmidt.

A graduate of Augusta High School, Andy spent much of his life working as a skilled mechanic, where he found satisfaction in fixing the unfixable and never shied away from a challenge. Andy attended Butler Community College for a stint where he studied drafting. Later in life, he went to welding vocational school. He had a passion for Harley-Davidsons and a well-earned reputation as a daredevil, always chasing the thrill of the open road.

Andy had a heart as big as his stories. Known for lending a hand to anyone in need-often without expecting anything in return. Whether he was under the hood of a car, tinkering with a computer, or experimenting with rockets in the backyard, Andy brought curiosity and joy to everything he touched.

He was a master storyteller, with a gift for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. His warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed.

Andy is survived by his daughters, Catrina "Tina" (Michael) Harris and Tamisyn "Tami" Holdren; grandchildren, Tierra (Darren) Ehrlich, Tatum (Jacob) Wiens, Ethan (Cheyenne) Brennan, Evyn Harris, and Ryan Holdren; and great-grandchildren, Laykin, Layla, and Laynee Ehrlich; Stella and Phoenix Wiens; and Winslow and Finley Brennan. He also leaves behind two brothers, Dwight (Chris) Schmidt and Alan (Jackie) Schmidt.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Anne, and his beloved grandparents, Benny and Arky.

Andy lived life on his own terms-with grit, generosity, and a spark that won't soon be forgotten. His stories, laughter, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
