Leonard Neville Steele, Sr, affectionately known as Len, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 5, 2025 in Lancaster, PA. Born on December 1, 1933 in West Chester, PA. his life was marked by his dedication to his family.
Len grew up in West Chester, PA where he attended local schools and where he laid a foundation for a life of learning and perseverance At the age of 18, Len joined the AirForce where he served in Okinawa. He often relayed the stories of working on aircraft and his run in with the legendary Komodo dragon on the island.
His devotion to his craft led him to a distinguished career at Bishop Tube in Malvern where he worked with precious metals, stainless steel piping and welding. When Bishop Tube closed he secured employment in Norristown at Eastern States Steel. He retired from this company.
Len was an avid hunter and fisher and truly enjoyed the sports. He taught his sons and daughters to hunt and fish. He also took his grandchildren on fishing trips. He enjoyed taxidermy as well and often stuffed the animals he had caught. He shared them with his family.
Throughout his life Len was known to be exceptionally kind, handy and selfless. He worked especially hard to support his wife and seven children. At home he had a large garden of fruits and vegetables and taught his children and grandchildren the enjoyment of gardening and self-sufficiency. Len had a tremendous sense of humor and a playful nature. He often played "Sock Soccer" in the house with his children and grandchildren.
Len is survived by his loving, dedicated wife Helen and five of his seven children, Leontyne Renee Steele; Mary Lenora Faust (Ernest Faust); Stephenie Lynn Hertzfeld; Stephen Tracy Steele; Diedre Ann Brown (Mark Brown, Sr). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; a host of loving nieces, nephews, other extended family members and close family friends who were blessed to know him and will treasure his memory. He was predeceased in death by his first wife, Frances Callahan Steele; his sons; Leonard Neville Steele, Jr and Cornelius Brian Steele. His parents; John William Steele, Sr and Tacy Cooper Steele. His sisters; Ethel Letitia, Philena Freeman, Majorie Payne, Joan Dianne and his brothers; John William, Jr., Horace Cooper, Roland Audrey, William Washington and James Winchester.
As we reflect on Len's life, we are reminded of the impact one individual can have on the lives of many. His unwavering support, his gentle demeanor, and his genuine concern for others have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
In honor of a life so beautifully lived, we bid farewell to Lenard Neville Steele, Sr, a man who embodied the essence of kindness and service. As we say goodbye, we take solace in knowing that his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generous heart and capable hands.
Len's life was a journey of love, laughter, and hard work. It is with heavy hearts that we release him to his God, knowing that his story is one of triumph, friendship, and a life well-lived. As we celebrate his legacy, we are comforted by the memories and the lessons he left behind.
In the quiet moments, we will remember Len's warm smile, his hearty laugh, and the twinkle in his eye that spoke volumes about his zest for life. We will cherish the moments spent in his company and the wisdom he imparted through his actions and words.

Quarryville, PA on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
