His wife Diane (Dee) of 57 years was at his bedside as he said goodbye to his long and very good life on earth. Leonard was born on July 25, 1942, in Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas to Lorine Heine Wolff and Alfred William Wolff. He and Dee (Diane Ricke of Winthrop, Minnesota) were married in 1968 and made their home in Houston until 2020 when they moved to live on the land which had once been owned by his maternal great grandparents.
Leonard graduated from Spring Branch High School in Houston, Texas and then from Sam Houston College with a degree in Business and Accounting. Leonard began his business Life with John Hancock Life Insurance Company at the age of twenty-four. After a few years, he created two independent agencies of his own which handled life and health, homeowners, property and casualty insurance. He loved helping people and operated these agencies until he retired at the age of 80.
Everyone who loved Leonard knew that he was a kind person, always optimistic and full of life. He enjoyed visiting with his clients who soon became his friends. He liked learning about the lives of others, how they lived, what they enjoyed . He always had stories to recount with Dee at the end of the day when they shared precious time together.
Leonard was an avid hand and racquet ball player. He loved to fish in his lake on the farm, in his boat in the Gulf of Mexico, in Alaska, Canada, Maine, Washington, Arkansas, Minnesota, California and other places. If there was a body of water nearby, he would be ready to throw a lure with his fishing pole. He loved going on adventuresome motorcycle trips with good friends, hunting for birds in South Texas, or Traveling with Dee to many places during their lifetime together. He was a wonderful companion to friends who travelled with him, always finding some curiosity which was fun for everyone. He was engaged and active . . . whether he was working with his clients, manicuring the farm property, building fences or buildings, clearing brush, helping with the gardens, taking care of wildlife or involved with the family or longtime friends. He was an inspiration to many for the joyful spirit that he put into his work and his life. Even during his later years when he suffered from Parkinson’s disease, he was kind and optimistic and loving to all who knew him and visited with him.
Leonard will be greatly missed by his wife, Dee and many friends and by his sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws and their extended families and by his niece and her family and his beloved cousin, and neighbors.
