Leonora R. Valdez, a longtime resident of Freedom, passed away on December 8, 2024, at the age of 80. A native of the Philippines, she was born on January 22, 1944, in Vintar Ilocos Norte, to her proud parents, Sabas Rivera and Tomasa Borce. She attended and graduated from Luzon Bible Institute in 1965. Eventually, she left her beloved country and came to the United States. She lived briefly in Orosi, CA. and Redwood City, CA., before settling in Freedom. She worked for may years as a nurse assistant and went on to become a caregiver for Aegis of Aptos where she mainly worked with dementia and Alzheimer's residents. Leonora was a devout woman of faith who lived her life devoted to the word of God. She invested her time into church ministry through leading Bible studies and Sunday school, as well as fundraising and church treasury. She lovingly and generously opened her family home to anyone who needed a meal to eat or a place to stay. From her heart, she truly endeavored to be a blessing and sharing God's love by giving to and serving others. Leonora is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Jesus) Gonzalez, her beloved grandchildren, Angel, Alex, and Tianna Gonzalez, and her siblings, Melania Ostrea, Priscilla Carlos, and Roland Rivera. She was preceded in death by her husband Prudencio P. Valdez, her son Venice Valdez, and her parents. Leonora was a kind and gentle soul who loved to meet people, pray over others, and be an encouragement. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Green Valley Church 376 S. Green Valley Road at 9AM, with a funeral service at 10AM. Celebration of Life and reception to follow.
