LeRoy L. DeBroux, Kaukauna, age 86, died at his home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. He was born in Kaukauna on February 12, 1938 to the late Ralph and Gertrude (Diedrich) DeBroux. He married the love of his life, Diana Strong, in Hortonville on October 3, 1964. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2023, after 59 years of marriage.
LeRoy proudly served in Wisconsin's Army National Guard for 27 years, retiring in 1998. During his tenure he had many MOS's including; Military Police Officer, Tank Commander, Communications Specialist, and Armorer. As an Armorer, he was a Test Supervisor and a Senior Instructor. This title led to him receiving a certificate of achieve for developing a computerized scoring sheet for the basic training common skills end of cycle test. LeRoy also received a ribbon for the Berlin Wall Crisis, because his unit was activated during that timeframe. One of the achievements he considered most special was an Army Commendation Medal that he received for taking on the role of Battalion Communications Chief and completing all of his tasks with less than fifty percent of the people in his platoon.
LeRoy worked as a furnace operator at Roloff Manufacturing until his retirement in 2002. He had many hobbies, but enjoyed woodworking and was heavily involved in Habitat for Humanity for fifteen years. In his younger years, he also enjoyed bowling with Diana. Playing Liverpool Rummy was a long-standing family card game and this was also and remains a favorite game played by his children and grandchildren.
LeRoy is survived by his children: Patrick (Dawn Chartier) DeBroux, Grand Chute; Michelle (Daniel) Franz, Granby, CO; Kristin (Robby Quandt) DeBroux, Little Chute; and Kevin (Cassi Scanlon) DeBroux, Bloomington, MN; four grandchildren: Alicia (Trevor) Niec, Scott (Jamie) Weyers, Mikayla (Trenton) Osborne, and Jacob DeBroux; five great-grandchildren: Jaylee, Liam, Sawyer, Aspen, and James. Lee is further survived by seven siblings: Melvin DeBroux, Norman DeBroux, Leonard DeBroux, Richard (Jean) DeBroux, Marlene Fink, Sharon (James) Lettau, and Ronald DeBroux.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Diana; parents, Ralph and Gertrude DeBroux; his father and mother-in-law, Byron and Laverne (Fields) Strong; six siblings: Wilfred (Maureen) DeBroux, LaVerne (Conrad) Forster, Ione (Francis) Burton, Carl DeBroux, Charlotte (Adam) Berg, and Donald DeBroux; sisters-in-law: Audrey, Patricia, LaVonne, and Carol, DeBroux; and many other relatives.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute) from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, October 25, 2024 at WORD FELLOWSHIP CHURCH (1020 Tullar Road, Neenah) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Schmitz officiating. Military honors will immediately follow. Committal Highland Memorial Park.
