Leslie Nichole Backner

Poland - Leslie Nichole Backner, 39, a lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Leslie was born May 21, 1986, in Warren, Ohio, a daughter of Gary Backner and Kathleen Cardon.
She graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 2004 and earned her bachelor's degree from Ohio University in Athens. She later continued her education in nursing at Kent State University.
Leslie worked as a nurse's aide for Mercy Health at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital and formerly was employed with Comfort Keepers in Youngstown for several years. Leslie volunteered at Angels for Animals for many years.
A devoted daughter, Leslie cherished time spent with her family and friends. In her free time, she enjoyed writing poetry and was an avid reader.
Leslie is survived by her parents, Gary T. (Cathie) Backner of Cortland and Kathleen Backner of Poland, with whom she made her home; her brother, Chris (Alexa) Backner of Nashville, TN; her sister, Allison Backner of Cortland; her stepbrother, Michael Mattern of Broadview Heights; and her stepsister, Kelly (Michael) Toth of Cortland. She also leaves her grandmother, Dorothy Cardon of Columbiana; nieces, Sydney Whipkey and Leah Toth; nephews, Nolan Toth, Carson Toth, Michael Backner and Christopher Backner; and two uncles, William Cardon of Canfield and Kevin (Diana) Backner of Pittsburgh, PA.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas and Agnes Backner, and William "Weige" Cardon.
Per Leslie's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Interment will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
