With tremendous sadness, we announce the passing of Leslie Miller of Stow MA on October 13th. 2025.
Leslie was born in Louisville, KY, the daughter of J. Leslie Miller III and his wife Ann. She attended Louisville Collegiate School, and the University of Louisville, where she studied English Language and Literature. In her final year, she was awarded the Humphrey Centenary Scholarship to study at Oxford, England where she received an MA - and met her future husband, Mike Jordan.
Mike followed Leslie back to the US after they both finished their studies, and they married. She worked at the Book Barn bookshop in Acton, running the store for many years.
For the past three decades, Leslie worked at the Massachusetts Audubon Shop at Drumlin Farm in Lincoln, MA. In addition to ordering the books, she thoroughly enjoyed the time spent on the sales floor with customers, helping them select not only books, but telescopes, binoculars, and bird feeders, and exchanging stories of recently seen birds.
Outside of work, Leslie was an avid traveler. She and Mike spent time in England every summer, hiking through the hills and valleys in his home county of Yorkshire. Together they traveled to many locations across the globe, including Iceland, Norway, New Zealand, Vancouver Island, and most of Atlantic Canada. Of course she returned regularly to her native Kentucky and her family farm, always visited relatives, collected family stories, and became the family memory keeper.
Her love for books extended to the library in Stow; she became a long-serving member of the Randall Library Friends organization.
Leslie had a wide range of pursuits outside of the book realm. She joined Mike on many astronomical outings, most recently the two solar eclipses in 2017 and 2024.
For the past few years, she also volunteered for Stow TV, helping to record a variety of performances for broadcast. She loved to attend local live music performances.
Leslie was an avid and accomplished cook, always experimenting with new recipes and food from diverse backgrounds. When Mike was diagnosed with celiac disease, Leslie perfected the art of baking gluten free bread, along with other treats. She loved nature and the outdoors, and she and Mike explored conservation land across New England. She loved the view of her backyard border garden, planted by Mike's mother Muriel.
Although she and Mike had no children, they loved the company of friends, their friends' children, and of course their extended family in England, including Mike's brother and sister-in-law Martin & Vivienne Jordan, niece Clare and nephew Paul.
Visiting hours will be Thursday Oct 23, 5-7 P.M. at the Acton Funeral Home. The service will be Friday October 24, at 10 A.M., also at the Acton Funeral Home with a reception following at the First Parish Church in Stow. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either the Randall Library Friends in Stow, MA or to Massachusetts Audubon in Lincoln, MA in Leslie's name.
