Lester Woodfin Davis, age 86, of Brighton Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on May 9, 1939, in Asheville, North Carolina, Lester was the son of Troy and Leona Davis. At the age of six, Lester's family relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where his father found work. It was in Detroit where Lester began his lifelong work ethic, securing his first job at the age of 12, delivering groceries. This early start marked the beginning of a long and successful career in the grocery business.
At 20, Lester opened his first store, Lester Quality Meats, in Dearborn, Michigan. His business acumen led him to expand further, purchasing Adams Supermarket in Dearborn, where he served the community for nearly 30 years. In the 1990s, he joined forces with his son Mark to purchase Middle Town Market, continuing his legacy of dedication and service to the community.
Outside of his career in grocery stores, Lester was a passionate farmer. He owned a small farm, Small Acres, where he lovingly raised alpacas, miniature horses, donkeys, and llamas. Working on the farm brought him immense joy and fulfillment. Lester also enjoyed traveling, particularly attending auctions and buying and selling golf carts. He had a fondness for buffets, which he affectionately referred to as "Smogsesborgs," always seeking out new places to enjoy good food and company.
Lester's greatest joy in life, however, was his family. He was married to his beloved wife, Margaret, for nearly 60 years. The two met at a dance and were married on September 5, 1959, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Dearborn. Together, they raised two children, Mark and Lorraine. As proud parents, they later became overjoyed grandparents and great-grandparents.
Lester was known for being loving, personable, hardworking, and talkative-a man who never met a stranger.
Lester was the beloved father of Mark (Peggy) Davis and Lorraine (Paul) Parker; the cherished grandfather of Megan (James) Garden, Emily Davis, Christopher (Jennifer Landry) Davis, Molly (Tyler) Brown, Abbey Davis, Troy Davis, Bryan (Haley) Simons, Olivia Davis, Samantha Parker, Jennifer (Justin) Young, and Matthew (Maggie) Parker; and the adored great-grandfather of Gabriella Vasquez, Braeden Spears, Jaxon Young, Jonah Young, Jasper Young, and Mia Brown. He is also survived by his dear sisters, Martha Welsh and Edith Baise, as well as many loving family members and friends.
Lester is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Margaret Davis, and his sibling, Cleo Wilson.
Lester's life was one of hard work, deep love for his family, and a commitment to his community. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
